Aga is a freelance, versatile vocalist, singing teacher and music tutor based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Her voice suits a broad spectrum of genres and styles and is described as a deep, dark and warm sound. Aga holds BMus (Hons) degree from Kingston University.
Aga was born in Bydgoszcz, in the north part of Poland. Music intrigued her since a young age and she was fascinated by it in any form. Her conscious musical journey began with taking piano lessons
, and growing adoration to music pushed her further, as she joined a church choir. The regular rehearsals fruited in a release of the ‘Hosanna’ album in 2001 and a number of public concerts with her choir friends around her hometown, which in turn gave Aga a unique opportunity to experience team performances and to develop her musicality during numerous vocal gospel workshops.
Aga has always been drawn towards new things and enthusiastic about exploring them – which was the reason why she chose to study full-time in a bilingual French class in High School and attend professional Music School in the afternoons.
In Music School, she worked on her voice as the main instrument, as well as gained theoretical and practical skills in areas such as classical solo singing, vocal ensembles, harmony, music history, ear training and eurythmics. Aga had a special chance to craft her vocal skills under surveillance of dr Kamila Abrahamowicz-Szlempo, Polish professional vocalist and a winner of prestigious national awards. Moreover, Aga also participated in Voicingers, the Summer Vocal Jazz School in Zory in August 2012, where she studied with Anna Gadt, Edi Sanchez and Grzegorz Karnas – worldwide recognised jazz musicians. It was this priceless experience of meeting that many inspiring people from jazz world that made Aga fell in love with this music irretrievably.
After graduating from High School, Aga moved to Bordeaux with the intention to work as au-pair for a year. Inspired by the diversity of environments, people and customs,
she started writing own lyrics/songs in French. During her stay in France, she had a rare opportunity to be coached by famous jazz singer, Monique Thomas-Ottaviani. Rest of her spare time, she dedicated to exploring great jazz musicians, in particularly Miles Davis and discovering French artists, such as Edith Piaf, Francoise Hardy, Jacques Brel or Brigitte Bardot.
In 2013 Aga moved to the capital of Scotland, where she eventually settled down. She studied Popular Music at Kingston University, on Edinburgh Collage campus, from which she graduated in 2017.
List of her modules included: singing, music theory, jazz, improvisation, performance, music technology, composition, community music and many more. Since 2014, she has performed with the Tinderbox Orchestra, experiencing contemporary orchestral music. Aga completed the Scottish Certificate in Jazz at the University of St Andrews and she is currently working towards the Advanced Diploma in Jazz. She is also composing her own crossover-genre music, mainly inspired by improvisation, jazz, pop and folk music.
